Top of the world, Ma...
I'm a comedy purist. I've enjoyed Comedy Central since it first started out as Ha! way way back. So you can imagine the thrill I got this morning to come into work and find out that I'd made the network's blog. Talk about stoked!
I'd reported over the weekend the hilarious appearance of Guam's congressional delegate on "The Colbert Report" and somewhat expressed my disdain for the fact that many local residents were outraged in principle at the ribbing at my hometown. Such is life, and I can't say I was all that surprised, given our history of reacting to media coverage. It's already become the 2nd most-read story of this year, in only 4 days after being published, no doubt in part due to the reach.
But still, it's an honor to make it on a big stage.

Hey.. just found your old blog while doing a Google for any news about HDTV on Guam. Then I found your new blog with the Colbert story up top.
I sent an e-mail to Steven Colbert (care of webmaster@colbertnation.com) almost a year ago when he first interviewed Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton of D.C. Ms. Norton complained that Washingtonians were the only Americans who could not vote, and I corrected her statement and suggested he interview the Representative of Guam. I can't help but wonder if that was a factor in last Thursday's episode. I'll try to see if I can find the e-mail, but I'm pretty sure I sent it from my MCV guam.net address, and I doubt I still have a copy.
I think it would have been nice if we had a Representative with a bit of a sharper wit, or possibly someone more like Ms. Norton who could go toe-to-toe, but we don't exactly have a history of electing the best and the brightest. (Not that we're alone in that.)
Interestingly, Colbert also mentioned Guam in last Wednesday's episode, although he pre-records the "Better Know" segments, so it's likely Guam was fresh in his mind.
Anyway, there's no such thing as bad publicity, even as the brunt of a joke -- especially when you realize that all of the "Better Know" interviewees are the target of his jokes.. the only difference is how well they play along.
Link to Eleanor Holmes Norton interview. (Extra segments from Bordallio interview are currently at the top of the list on the right as well).
