It's on

Forgive me for gloating just a tad, but I've compiled a list of the stations that wew're up against for this year's national Murrow award for best small market TV news web site. We won last year.
What do you think and which is your favorite? And why? There are some pretty good sites this year with some interesting takes on presenting news, events and information. At some point, I'd like to be a judge for the Murrows...maybe there's a "Top Gun" rule - ya know, if you win once, you get to come back as an instructor. :-)

Of interest is that a lot of these sites run ASP.NET. I'm just sayin'.

Comments:
Good work! Why did you go from regional winner "large market" in 2006 to regional winner "small market" in 2007?

Thanks. We do appreciate it.

We've always been in the small market category based on the number of domestic viewers on Guam. We got the regional and then the national award last year, in that order. For the latter, we won for small market operations along other companies like Court TV and Washington Post for their market sizes.

What did you think of the others in the category I listed? Some pretty slick work, I think.

Congrats!

Thanks Lindsay! That's very kind of you. :-)

When are you coming back home again?

I leave for home this coming Wednesday. Can't wait!

I'm sorry to hear about Akash, he used to come into Hava Java all the time when we were at the Agana Shopping Center. Guam's lost a good guy.

Speaking of Hava Java, stop by, that's where I'll probably be spending a majority of my time home. :)

Great! Maybe I'll run into you.

Yeah, we were all shocked by learning that someone from the local journalism community had passed away. Anytime a colleague dies, it's always a sad time here, and Akash was really well liked by everyone. My friend Mark Pieper wrote a beautiful piece on him.

We'll miss you, AKash.

Top sites for me

49ABCNews
14WFIE

I've always been a "less is more" advocate. The other sites were too cluttered/too busy/too colorful for it to be effective.
The other images distract from the news or more important information. I liked the two sites I mentioned because the ads were few; they focused on news, people's comments, events calendar, and national news.

Ahem, and that is just my two-cents. :)

Congrats on making it again! Good luck!

Hi Jhoanna,

That's interesting...the ones I was most impressed with were:
